Chicago Cops Shoot Man Who Charged Them With a Knife

Chicago, Illinois — On May 5, 2025, Chicago Police Officers responded to a call of a person with a knife inside an assisted living facility. After officers entered the building, they encountered a man, later identified as 47-year-old Alfonzo Wright, armed with a knife inside their apartment. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and then deployed their tasers towards Wright. Wright continued to disregard verbal commands and rushed toward an officer while swinging the knife. Two officers discharged their weapons, striking Wright multiple times. Wright was pronounced deceased on scene. Officers also discovered a 58-year-old man, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Keith Harding, dead inside the apartment. Police said Harding had suffered stab wounds to the neck and arm, and they believe he was a victim of the man fatally shot by police. The officers were not injured during the encounter. A knife was recovered on scene.
